Captions & Accessible Video

Video is everywhere on business sites, and it carries specific accessibility duties under WCAG.

Captions for the deaf and hard of hearing

Pre-recorded video with audio needs synchronized captions. Auto-generated captions are a start but should be corrected for accuracy, names, and punctuation.

Transcripts and audio description

Provide a transcript for audio content, and audio description where important visual information isn’t conveyed in the existing soundtrack.

Control autoplay

Don’t auto-play audio. If media plays automatically for more than three seconds, give users an obvious way to pause or stop it.
